Accelerate your migration to SAP S/4 Hana with Qlik Gold Client
In this blog we will cover off the two main use cases in which Climber can assist with either managing test data in your SAP ERP environments or making your SAP data available for reporting from a single Data Warehouse or Data Lake platform.
Author: Mark James, Data Integration Consultant at Climber.
It is hard these days to encounter any large enterprise organisation, who isn’t already using SAP or is considering it. SAP is the world’s largest provider of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and is typically used by Enterprise companies across many industries.
SAP offers an end-to-end suite of applications and services, in their words, “to enable their customers to operate profitably, adapt continuously, and make a difference worldwide”.*
- SAP customers generate 87% of total global commerce ($46 trillion)
- 99% of the largest companies in the world are SAP customers
- 85% of the 100 largest companies in the world are SAP S/4HANA customers
- Approximately 80% of SAP’s customers are Small/Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
With this in mind, this blog will cover off the two main use cases in which Climber can assist with either managing test data in your SAP ERP environments or making your SAP data available for reporting from a single Data Warehouse or Data Lake platform.

Use Case 1: SAP S4 HANA Migration & Test Data Management
Are you currently using SAP ECC within your organisation? If so, you are more than likely aware of the pending deadline to migrate to SAP HANA in 2027. This is likely to put pressure on the SAP teams for the creation and management of test data.
Today, manual processes in Test Data Management can introduce risk, either through introducing delays to the project due to locking SAP or lengthy refresh processes. It also introduces privacy concerns if the data is not obfuscated. Qlik Gold Client is an SAP certified solution available on the SAP Store, designed to make Test Data Management use cases streamlined without impacting the source systems. It enables you to create fully functional clients and subsets of data that can be refreshed on-demand. This helps you to reduce your infrastructure costs and size of non-production systems. As data is obfuscated with Qlik Gold Client, you can easily comply with relevant data privacy laws. This means you can accelerate your migration timelines, avoid the risk of unnecessary delays, and deliver SAP POCs more efficiently.

Use Case 2: SAP BW to Cloud or On-Premise Data Warehouse
Are you considering building a data warehouse, combining data from your SAP Business Warehouses along with other mission critical data sources within your organisation? Do you want to be able to make more informed data-driven decisions in near-real time from your SAP data? Then, have you heard of Qlik Data Integration?
Qlik Data Integration can help with freeing your data from your SAP systems into a single managed Data Warehouse, for the intention of or Data Analytics projects. Data can be taken in real-time out of your SAP environments by taking advantage of Qlik’s CDC data capture technology and landed into a Data Warehouse for the purposes of analytics or machine learning.

To enhance the speed at which clients can get return on their investment, Qlik has developed a suite of accelerators around:
- Order-to-Cash
- SAP Financials
- SAP Inventory Management
The accelerators are designed to get quicker ROI and get to valuable and actionable data insights from common SAP modules.
If you would like to hear more real-world examples of implementing Qlik Data Integration using SAP ERP systems as a source, listen to this interesting and informative BrightTalk webcast hosted by Qlik and Nicolas Legato, Head of Data Engineering Backend at Siemens Energy.
Here are a few quotes taken from the session:
“Snowflake and Qlik Data Integration are the right solutions to start a new data driven journey at Siemens Energy,”
Nicolas Legato, Head of Data Engineering Backend, Siemens Energy“Why QDI? With QDI we managed to reduce the operational effort by 50%,”
